Why most expert stories do not convert
Most experts on podcasts share interesting stories, but interesting is not the same as converting. A story converts when the listener finishes it and thinks "that is exactly where I am right now, and I want to be where they are".
That is not an accident. It is a structure.
The 4-beat story that does the selling
1. The moment of stuckness
Open inside a specific scene. Not "a few years ago I was struggling". Try "I was sitting in my car after a sales call I had already lost, refreshing my bank app". Specificity earns attention.
2. The cost
Name what staying stuck was actually costing. Money, time, identity, relationships. This is the part most experts skip because it feels vulnerable. It is the part that makes listeners feel seen.
3. The turning point
The single insight, decision, or moment that changed everything. Keep it to one. If you list five, listeners remember none.
4. The new normal
Show what life looks like on the other side, in concrete terms. Numbers, scenes, specifics. This is where the listener decides whether they want what you have.
Why this works
The 4-beat structure mirrors how humans actually decide to change. They have to feel the cost of staying the same and see proof that the other side is real. Your story is the proof.
Tying the story to your offer
End the story by naming the bridge. "What I learned in that moment is what now lives inside [your method or offer]." This is the gentlest, most effective call to action you can make on a podcast.
The bottom line
You do not need more stories. You need one great one, structured to do real work.
